Lakeshore Restoration in Pleasant Prairie, WI
Project Overview
CK Contractors recently completed a shoreline restoration project along 100 feet of Lake Michigan private lakeshore in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin. The project addressed ongoing beachfront erosion and debris accumulation, both of which had compromised the safety, appearance, and usability of the shoreline.
Objectives
- The primary goals of the project were to:
- Stabilize the shoreline to prevent further erosion.
- Create a safe and functional beachfront area.
- Ensure the finished project visually and structurally blended in with lakeshore restoration work previously completed by neighboring property owners.
Scope of Work
To meet these objectives, CK Contractors delivered a comprehensive restoration that included:
- Installation of a riprap/rock revetment using 1- to 8-ton granite boulders
- Construction of a usable beachfront area
- Design continuity with adjacent shoreline treatments to preserve the visual and environmental integrity of the surrounding area
Design and Collaboration
The project design was a joint effort between CK Contractors and the property owner. Special attention was given to aligning the restoration style, materials, and layout with those of adjacent shoreline properties, ensuring a seamless and natural look across the broader lakeshore.
Materials and Techniques
Heavy granite boulders were used to build the rock revetment, providing long-lasting protection against wave energy and erosion. This time-tested approach offers both durability and a natural aesthetic that harmonizes with the lakefront environment and neighboring projects.
Regulatory Compliance
All required permits were obtained before construction began, including:
- An access permit from the Village of Pleasant Prairie
- Environmental approvals from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
Timeline and Budget
The project was completed over a two-month period and was delivered on schedule and within budget.
Challenges and Solutions
Weather posed a challenge, particularly late winter conditions with occasional snow, which made lake conditions too choppy for safe or effective work on some days. CK Contractors responded with flexibility, pausing work during poor weather and resuming as conditions allowed to maintain safety and progress.
Outcome
The finished shoreline is now structurally sound, erosion-resistant, and visually cohesive with its surroundings. The homeowner gained a safe and attractive beachfront that enhances both function and property value, all with the reassurance it aligns with and complements the lakeshore’s broader restoration efforts.
