Shaping the Shore: Bluff Stabilization and Shoreline Erosion Repair in Mequon, WI
From steep, unstable bluff conditions to a secure and accessible waterfront, this Mequon lakeshore restoration showcases CK Contractors’ ability to manage extreme terrain while delivering lasting shoreline protection.
CK Contractors completed a large-scale lakeshore restoration project along a steep bluff shoreline in Mequon, Wisconsin. The property presented extreme conditions, including a 187-foot elevation drop from the top of the bluff to the lake and long-standing instability that had limited safe access and threatened the shoreline’s integrity. The project required careful planning and specialized execution to stabilize the terrain while improving functionality.
To restore and protect the shoreline, CK Contractors installed 1,135 feet of granite rock revetment designed to withstand ongoing wave action and erosion. The entire bluff was regraded to a consistent 2.5:1 slope to improve stability and reduce erosion pressure. In addition to shoreline protection, the team constructed two walking trails from the top of the bluff to the lake, installed granite stairs through the revetment, created a beach area, and developed an observation space overlooking the water.
Transporting materials down the steep terrain required controlled placement techniques and strategic access planning. Weather also played a significant role in the project. Rainfall frequently required temporary shutdowns so crews could allow the ground to dry and regrade the access road before safely resuming work.
The completed restoration transformed a severely unstable bluff into a secure, erosion-resistant, and accessible waterfront. The shoreline is now protected, lake access is safe and functional, and the property benefits from long-term structural stability while maintaining its natural character.
