Unveiling the New Grandstands at Wilmot Raceway

Published On: January 29, 2024

Experience the revival of Wilmot Raceway – from salvaging history to conquering Wisconsin weather, discover the journey of rebuilding this Wisconsin treasure.

We had the opportunity to create a custom set of grandstands for Wilmot Raceway at the Kenosha County Fairgrounds. We dismantled the old grandstands, allowing some of the community to walk away with pieces of history. This included old wood beams and bench seats.

We were able to get used aluminum seats from Rockingham International Speedway in Rockingham, NC. The new steel structure was designed in order to support the bench seating. New seats and steal peices that were needed were made in the CK shop.

The new structure sits on a 480-yard floating concrete slab that was continuously poured in one day, with the help of Zirbel Concrete. During that day, thanks to Wisconsin weather, we hit all 4 seasons in one day.

Utilizing a recycled storage container, we fashioned a new, custom-built press box, adding a unique touch to the revamped raceway.

Despite numerous hurdles, from the challenge of acquiring all the stand pieces to battling the snow and ice of Wisconsin’s winter weather, the project extended beyond its initial timeline. However, the prolonged effort proved worthwhile, resulting in a triumphant outcome that stands as a testament to resilience and dedication.
